Its a relatively powerful machine, and should be more than enough to handle the game at scaled settings. from a deficit.Īs for the PS4, the game is very very new to the platform, so there is still a lot of optimization that needs to be done. Remember, for the 2.5+ years that PS2 was losing money developers, artists, modelers, sound techs, game designers, testers, and a bunch of other people I'm forgetting were all drawing a paycheck. So the major roadblock hasn't been tech, its been cost. PS1 was a step into mostly unexplored territory, and PS2 is a slight refinement on that process. We have the tech and materials needed to make a game like this run much faster, but the problem is money. I don't know that it's before it's time technologically. And could still be if they were to develop those things more in to the game. But it needed some things that PS1 did right to be what it should have been. It's still a great game, don't get me wrong. What they didn't have with PS2 was the development time needed to get everything done that needed to be done to make this game next level awesome. But they had the formula from PS1 to make PS2 great. Is PS2 before it's time? I don't think so. That, along with the time they took to optimize the brand new engine they used, ForgeLight. You can blame the handcrafted method they used for the maps along with the hex adjacency to lattice link switch they had to do after release. In the end, they didn't get to a lot of thing because they spent a lot of time making the maps work properly. They had a lot of things on the plate that needed to get done for PS2 to meet expectations that PS1 had brought to the table. But you could say that about any game really. Of course these issues were ironed out over time but the same amount of people players was never as much as it was at first release. There were some significant events that occurred when they released an expansion that caused massive imbalances. I'm not certain but I think PS1 had a longer development process before release compared to the PS2 time frame. Planetside 1 had a large amount of people when it first launched and it dwindled over the years. I wasn't a part PS1 development, only the open beta a week before release. Today, games are being developed while the players play. In the past, most games were developed in an isolated environment until release.
